Beelzebus Specifications

Ok, guys, we often get questions about Beelzebus measurements and other specifications of our bus, so in this post I will try to put together a list with all the specifications I can think of.

• Beelzebus is a Mercedes 508D from 1984.
• The length of the bus is almost 6 meters and the width is ca 2,1 meters. The size of this bus is one of the reasons why we wanted to buy this model, since it is easy to drive/park on smaller moutain roads and is also cheaper to transport with ferries in Europe, since it is just bellow 6 meters.
• The exterior height of the bus is 3,1 m, which allows us to drive through most of the tunnels and under bridges in Europe. These dimensions also make a good living area in the bus.
• The interior height from (the floor to the ceiling) is about 190cm, so Björn being 183cm tall can easily stand up straight.
• Beelzebus weights ca 4,5 tons and you need a C driving license to drive this bus legally in Europe (unless you took your B license before 1996).
• Beelzebus has a 4 cylinder diesel engine, called OM 314, the gearbox is a 5-speed manual. We are thinking about changing or renovating both one day, but I will write a separate post about it when we have time and resources to do that.
• Beelzebus is a RWD bus.

Here’s some other info about Beelzebus:
🚰 The fresh water tank is 80L atm (+ we have 2 water jugs with 15L in total inside of the bus just in case). We want to install a 180-200L fresh water tank eventually.
💦 The grey water tank is 85L.
🔥 There are 2 gas bottles for cooking, 5kg each. So, we have 10 kg of gas in total. 5 kg of gas = 3-4 month of cooking (for us).
⛽️ The diesel tank is 180 L. Fuel consumption rate is 1,4 L/ 10 km. Our heating system runs on this tank too. That way we never run out of diesel for our diesel heater and have to refill only one tank instead of two..
⚡️ We have 2 LG 360W solar panels, 720W in total.
🔋 There are 2 gel batteries in the bus - 250 Ah each, 500 Ah in total. These batteries are enough for us for about 3 days in case the solar panels are not able to recharge them at all, which has never happened because we get at least some energy even on very cloudy days.
🚿🚽 We have a portable toilet and a “hidden” underfloor shower in the bus atm. We don’t have a separate shower/ toilet room because Balthazar needs a lot of space. We wanted him to have his own place in the bus with his own bed so he’d be comfortable travelling with us.

Have I left anything out? Do you have any other questions about Beelzebus? Let me know. :)
